The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends home monitoring for everyone with high blood pressure. It’s important that you follow the steps below in order to get accurate results.

Blood pressure measuring instructions

  • 30 minutes before measuring:
    • Don’t smoke
    • Don’t exercise
    • Don’t drink caffeinated beverages
  • 5 minutes before measuring
    • Empty your bladder
    • Find a quiet place
    • Sit still in a chair and rest
  • Getting ready to measure
    • Make sure the cuff is the right size
    • Wrap the bottom of the cuff just above the bend of your elbow
    • Wrap the cuff against skin, not over clothing
  • While measuring
    • Sit still and upright with your back straight and supported
    • Relax
    • Don’t talk
    • Rest your arm palm up on a flat surface (like a table top) with the upper part of your arm at heart level
    • Place both feet on the floor, don’t cross your legs
  • After measuring
    • Take two or three measurements 1 minute apart
    • Log the readings in your Dario App
    • Share your results with your healthcare provider at your next visit

!ALERT!
If your blood pressure is higher than 180/120 mmHg it is a crisis.
Take your blood pressure again, and call your healthcare provider if it is still high.
