Delicious and fruity, hibiscus tea helps reduce inflammation and is rich in antioxidants.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups still water or 4 cups still water and 4 cups soda
  • 3/4 to 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • A few thin slices ginger
  • Lime juice
  • Orange or lime slices for garnish

Method

Put 4 cups of the water in a medium saucepan and add the sugar, cinnamon, and ginger slices. Stirring occasionally, heat until boiling and the sugar has dissolved.

Remove from heat and stir in the hibiscus flowers. Cover and let cool for 20 minutes.

Strain into a jug and discard the used hibiscus flowers, ginger, and cinnamon. (If you want to store the concentrate for later, place it in a suitable container and chill until ready to make the drink).

Add the remaining four cups of water to the concentrate, and chill or add ice cubes. If you want a fizzy drink, add four cups of soda.

Add a little lime juice for a more punch-like flavor.

Serve over ice with a slice of orange or lime.
