Learning you’ve got diabetes can be overwhelming. But with the right help and support, there’s a lot you can do to keep yourself healthy. At Dario we are here to help you do just that, together we’ll take the first steps on your journey to manage your diabetes and keep your blood glucose levels on track.

Diabetes is chronic health condition that occurs when your blood glucose, also known as blood sugar, is too high over a period of time. This happens because your body doesn’t make enough insulin, or doesn’t use insulin well. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose enter your body’s cells to be used for energy. There are a number of signs that suggest high levels of glucose in your blood (hyperglycemia) such as feeling more thirsty than usual, needing to pee more often, increased hunger, tiredness, blurred vision, slow-healing sores, dry mouth, weakness, confusion, and in extreme circumstances, coma.

Why test your blood glucose

Self-monitoring blood glucose levels is an important part of managing your diabetes and reducing the probability of long-term health complications. At Dario, we simplify testing and monitoring your blood glucose levels to help you:

  • Check that you are meeting your overall target range goals
  • Identify hypo and hyper blood glucose levels that are too high or too low
  • Understand the effect diet and exercise have on your blood glucose levels
  • Understand the effect that stress, illness, and other mood factors may have on your blood glucose levels
  • Monitor the effect that diabetes medications have on your blood glucose levels

Understanding the numbers

Your health care provider will set target blood glucose levels depending on your personal health profile. The American Diabetes Association generally recommends the following target blood glucose readings1

Blood glucose targets for nonpregnant adults with diabetes
Before meals Between 80-130 mg/dL (4.4 – 7.2 mmol/L)
1–2 hours after the beginning of the meal Less than 180 mg/dL (10 mmol/L)

Healthy eating habits

Most of the carbohydrates you eat is turned into glucose, which is used by your body for energy. Eating a healthy diet and maintaining an active lifestyle are important for people living with diabetes. Research shows that maintaining good blood glucose control and, if needed, losing weight by following a healthy eating plan, can help manage diabetes symptoms and reduce the chance of long-term health complications2.

At Dario, we are here to support and help you meet your healthy eating goals. We’ll give you guidance and encouragement to help you plan and stick to your goals of eating for in-range blood sugars. Along with motivational and hunger-busting tips, we’ll also give you suggestions and strategies to maintain your healthy eating behavior after you’ve reached your health goals.
